Jennifer Backhaus is a Lecturer in the Dance Department at Chapman University and Irvine Valley College. She is the Founder and Artistic Director of Backhausdance, a renowned contemporary dance company in Orange County. Her expertise spans modern dance, choreography, and Pilates instruction. She holds certifications as a Pilates instructor and teaches courses in modern dance technique, choreography, and dance conditioning.
Her choreographic works have been commissioned by institutions such as the Los Angeles Ballet, Utah Regional Ballet, and Brigham Young University. Notable accolades include the OC Metro's 40 Under 40 (2009) and multiple Lester Horton Awards for her pieces 'Sitting on January', 'Love and Other Impossibilities', and 'Shift'. Her work 'Disintegration' was featured at the Kennedy Center through the American College Dance Festival.
Jennifer also serves as a teaching artist for the Orange County Performing Arts Center's Education Programs, extending her impact to local students. Her creative and pedagogical contributions have been recognized nationally and regionally, solidifying her role as a leading figure in contemporary dance and education.
