Jennie Francis is Senior Teaching Associate in Music Education at the University of Cambridge's Faculty of Education. With extensive experience as secondary music head and PGCE mentor, she holds BA from Leeds, PGCE from Cambridge, and MA Education from Cambridge focusing on teacher agency.
Her research examines music composition pedagogy, teacher identity, and inclusive classroom practices. She investigates how teachers' identities as composers influence pedagogical approaches and student creative development. Recent work explores embodied learning and dialogic approaches in music education.
Publications address composition teaching strategies, teacher-composer identities, and GCSE music pathways. She authored practical worksheets for Music Mark Magazine and theoretical explorations of inclusive musicking classrooms. Current professional activities include directing Wattisham Military Wives Choir and maintaining classroom teaching practice.
She leads PGCE Music training and contributes to practitioner professional development. As Assistant Editor for Journal of Trainee Teacher Educational Research, she supports emerging scholarship. Her work bridges academic research with practical classroom application.
