Jenn Stephenson is Professor of Drama and Associate Dean (Studies) at Queen's University's Faculty of Arts and Science. She holds a Ph.D. in Drama (University of Toronto), M.F.A. in Theatre Design (University of Victoria), and M.A. in English (University of Western Ontario). Her research focuses on autobiographical performance, metatheatre, and participatory performance practices. She has authored Insecurity: Perils and Products of Theatres of the Real (forthcoming) and Performing Autobiography in Contemporary Canadian Drama (2013), which won the Ann Saddlemyer Award.
Stephenson has received numerous teaching awards, including multiple Drama Department Teaching Awards and a Governor General’s Gold Medal nomination. Her editorial work includes serving as Editor-in-Chief of Canadian Theatre Review since 2016, co-editing special issues on topics like 'Performing Futures' and 'Archives', and publishing over 30 peer-reviewed articles.
Her research explores intersections between performance and ethics, particularly in postdramatic and immersive theatre. Notable works analyze vulnerability in autobiographical performance, spatial ambiguity in Shakespearean adaptations, and collaborative pedagogical methods like the ICE Approach. She has been a vocal advocate for innovative theatre education and assessment strategies in higher education.
