Her research expertise includes visual culture, nation branding (especially China), cultural resistance, 9/11 and the War on Terror, and the intersection of aesthetics and politics. She applies critical theoretical frameworks—particularly from Rancière and Badiou—to analyze visual practices in geopolitical and cultural diplomacy contexts.
Her recent publications explore Chinese art diplomacy, climate change curating, and resistance in post-9/11 media. These works reveal a consistent engagement with how visual forms shape national identity, global perception, and political resistance. Her research is supported by significant AHRC grants, including projects on colonial photography in Malaysia and China's art-based soft power.
Scientific recognition includes participation in the AHRC Engaging with Government Programme and the DMU Vice-Chancellor’s Future Research Leaders Programme.

Her research is affiliated with the Photographic History Research Centre and the Arts, Design and Performance Research Institute. She also contributes as an External Reviewer for the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong and is a member of the Art and Politics Specialist Group of the UK Political Studies Association.
