Jen Manion is a Professor at Amherst College, affiliated with the Department of History and Sexuality, Women's and Gender Studies. They hold a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and a Ph.D. from Rutgers University. Manion's research examines gender, sexuality, and LGBTQ+ history in America, with focus areas including carceral culture, medical injustice, and social activism.
Manion authored award-winning books such as Liberty’s Prisoners: Carceral Culture in Early America (2015) and Female Husbands: A Trans History (2020), and co-edits The Cambridge History of Sexuality in the United States. They teach courses on Queer American History, U.S. LGBTQ Rights Movements, and Medical Injustice.
