Judge Jeffrey S. Sutton serves on the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit since 2003 and holds academic roles as a Senior Lecturing Fellow and adjunct professor at The Ohio State University College of Law and Harvard Law School. He specializes in constitutional law, appellate advocacy, and judicial precedent.
Education: B.A. from Williams College and J.D. from The Ohio State University College of Law.
Research interests include state constitutional law, federalism, and Supreme Court dynamics. Awards include membership in the American Law Institute (2006) and election to its Council (2017). He has authored influential books on constitutional law and judicial processes.
Professional roles: Chair of the Federal Judicial Conference Committee on Rules of Practice and Procedure (2012–2016), and advisory roles on appellate rules. Extensive litigation experience, including 12 U.S. Supreme Court arguments.
