Jeffrey Martin is a Professor at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) with over two decades of expertise in clinical research, epidemiology, and HIV-associated malignancies. He leads the UCSF Training in Clinical Research (TICR) Program and co-directs the Population and Clinical Sciences Core of the NIH-sponsored UCSF CFAR. His work spans observational and experimental studies in the U.S. and Africa, focusing on Kaposi’s sarcoma (KS), SARS-CoV-2, and immune dysregulation. He has directed large-scale cohorts like the UCSF SCOPE cohort and the Uganda AIDS Rural Treatment Outcomes (UARTO) Cohort, contributing to over 250 publications.
Education includes a BA in Biology from Johns Hopkins University, an MD from the University of Pennsylvania, an MPH in Epidemiology from UC Berkeley, and fellowships in Infectious Diseases and AIDS Prevention at UCSF.
His research in HIV-associated cancers, Long COVID, and viral immunology integrates study design, biostatistical analysis, and implementation science. Recent work explores SARS-CoV-2 antigen persistence, T cell dysfunction, and post-acute sequelae. He has pioneered diagnostic tools like KS-Detect for low-resource settings.
