Jeffery Martin, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). He serves as Director of the UCSF Training in Clinical Research (TICR) Program, which provides advanced training in clinical, epidemiologic, and translational research to students, post-doctoral fellows, and junior faculty. His work in Africa focuses on grants addressing early detection, prevention, and therapy of Kaposi’s sarcoma (KS), an HIV/AIDS-related malignancy. He leads the Data Coordinating Center for the Mbarara-based Uganda AIDS Rural Treatment Outcomes (UARTO) Cohort (750 subjects) and directs UCSF’s contribution to the East Africa International Epidemiologic Databases to Evaluate AIDS (IeDEA) consortium.
Research interests include clinical epidemiology, HIV/AIDS-associated cancers, and global health interventions. He is actively involved in capacity-building initiatives for African physicians through KS-focused training programs.
Grants and collaborations span translational oncology, clinical trial coordination, and global health infrastructure development in sub-Saharan Africa. His leadership roles include overseeing multidisciplinary research teams and training programs to advance evidence-based healthcare strategies.
