Dr. Jeffrey Jackson is a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Houston-Downtown, serving as former chair of the Department of Social Sciences (2011–2017) and the Department of History, Humanities, and Languages. He earned a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Vanderbilt University, following an MA and BA in Philosophy from Ohio University. His research focuses on 19th- and 20th-century philosophy, particularly the interplay between subjectivity and historical contexts, informed by a Fulbright Student Fellowship at the University of Leuven (2002–2003).
Teaching emphases include introductory philosophy courses and advanced topics like Biomedical Ethics, Philosophy of Psychology, and Political Philosophy. His work bridges continental philosophy, psychoanalysis, and social theory, addressing themes such as Nietzschean genealogy, trauma studies, and cultural critique.
