Jeffrey Hilgert is a Professor at the School of Industrial Relations, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Université de Montréal. His research focuses on workplace health and safety, international labour standards, and global political economy. He has supervised over 30 graduate students and contributes to the Centre de recherche interuniversitaire sur la mondialisation et le travail (CRIMT).
Affiliations include CRIMT and involvement in strategic research initiatives such as "Institutional Experimentation for Better Work." Awards include the 2017 Excellence in Teaching Award and the 2013 Best Book in Human Rights from the American Political Science Association. His teaching includes courses on Industrial Relations theories and international occupational safety and health.
Research projects span global labour policy, disability policy in Canada, and human rights due diligence. He leads or co-leads projects funded by FRQSC and CRSH, focusing on global workplace improvements and worker rights.
Key publications address geopolitics in labour theory, ILO strategies on workplace safety, and the evolution of industrial relations. His work bridges academic analysis with policy advocacy for equitable labour practices worldwide.
