Professor Jeffrey Fear holds the position of Professor of International Business History within the Political & International Studies department at the University of Glasgow. His research focuses on German business history, family/small business competitiveness, multinational enterprises, and immigrant entrepreneurship, particularly German-American contributions. He has held visiting roles at institutions like the University of Southern California and University of Marburg. Fear has authored/co-authored major works such as Organizing Control: August Thyssen and edited volumes on family multinationals.
His research explores how Central European small businesses became global leaders and examines German-American immigrant entrepreneurs' impact on modern America, exemplified through figures like Carl Laemmle (Universal Studios). Fear’s work bridges history, strategic management, and organizational learning, with notable contributions to understanding corporate governance differences between Germany and the U.S.
He serves on editorial boards for journals like Business History Review and Essays in Economic and Business History, and has organized international symposia on topics such as German-American cultural crossings and post-1945 business-state relations.
