Jeff Vervoort is a Professor and Director of the Radiogenic Isotope and Geochronology Laboratory (RIGL) at Washington State University. He holds a Ph.D. from Cornell University (1994), an M.S. from the University of Minnesota-Duluth (1987), and a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin (1978). His research focuses on radiogenic isotope geochemistry and geochronology, particularly the early Earth's formation and evolution, continental crust formation, and crustal modification processes. His work utilizes advanced techniques like U-Pb dating of zircon and Lu-Hf isotopic analysis.
Current research includes studying the Paleoarchean crustal evolution in Zimbabwe and São Francisco Cratons, and the growth of the Pilbara Craton. Funded projects explore deformation effects on accessory minerals and the tectonic assembly of supercontinents. The RIGL facilities enable cutting-edge analyses with MC-ICPMS and laser ablation systems.
Key publications address zircon Hf isotopes, crust-mantle evolution, and geochronology of ancient terranes. Vervoort advises numerous students and collaborates on global crustal evolution studies, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to Earth's geological history.
