معرفی
Jeff Twiss is a Professor and SmartState Chair in Childhood Neurotherapeutics at the University of South Carolina, affiliated with the McCausland College of Arts and Sciences and the Department of Biological Sciences. His research focuses on neurobiology, particularly axonal regeneration, RNA transport, and protein synthesis in neurons, aiming to restore neural function after injury.
Research Interests: Twiss investigates how intrinsic neuronal mechanisms and extrinsic environmental factors influence neural repair. His work includes axonal mRNA localization, retrograde signaling, and RNA-binding protein dynamics, with applications in spinal cord injury and neurodegenerative diseases.
Scientific Contributions:
- PI(3,5)P2 biosynthesis in oligodendrocyte differentiation
- Role of SUMOylation in axonal growth
- HDAC6 as a target for neural regeneration
Grants & Awards: Funded by NIH, Department of Defense, US-Israel BSF, and the Adelson Medical Research Foundation, Twiss leads the Center for Childhood Neurotherapeutics.
