Ashley Kalinski is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of South Carolina's McCausland College of Arts and Sciences. Her research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of axon regeneration and the complex interplay between neurons, immune cells, and glial cells following traumatic nervous system injuries.
- Neurobiology of peripheral and central nervous system repair
- Immune-microenvironment interactions in nerve regeneration
- Investigation of Sarm1 protein's role in inflammation and Schwann cell reprogramming
- Use of mouse models, compartmentalized cell culture, and advanced imaging techniques
- Key publications in Science, Cell Reports, and Elife
Her work spans both in vivo and in vitro approaches to understand cellular communication during neural repair, with particular emphasis on inflammatory responses and their dual role in regeneration.
The Kalinski Lab maintains an active research program in Columbia, SC, where they explore neuron-intrinsic growth programs and glial cell contributions to regeneration through cutting-edge methodologies including live cell imaging and transcriptional analysis.
