Jeff Thompson is an Associate Professor and Program Director in the Visual Arts & Technology program at Stevens Institute of Technology's School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences. He holds an MFA from Rutgers University (2006) and a BFA from Minneapolis College of Art and Design (2004). His work spans creative programming, sculpture, digital fabrication, and physical computing, with exhibitions worldwide including the Athens Digital Art Festival, Vector Festival, and King's College Cambridge. Thompson has held residencies at MacDowell, Bell Labs, and the University of Cambridge.
Research focuses on intersections between art and technology, with notable projects like Slough of Despond (2023) and GUI/GOOEY (2023). Awards include the 2024 HASS Faculty Research Fellowship and 2019 New Jersey Individual Artist Fellowship. He teaches courses in creative programming, data design, and physical computing.
