Jeanette Ehrmann

Dr. Jeanette Ehrmann is a Guest Professor in Political Theory at the Department of Social Sciences, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. She holds a PhD in Political Science from Goethe University Frankfurt, where her dissertation on the Haitian Revolution won the Werner Pünder-Prize 2019. Her research focuses on postcolonial and intersectional feminist perspectives, exploring democratic theory, migration, borders, and decolonial methodologies. Ehrmann has held visiting positions at institutions including Northwestern University, the University of Oxford, and Université d’État d’Haїti. She is editor of the Special Issue Postkolonialität und die Krise der Demokratie and is preparing a monograph on the Haitian Revolution and decolonial politics. Her work critiques Western-centric democratic frameworks and emphasizes migrant-situated knowledge.

Teaching: Recent courses include Postcolonial Political Theory, Migration and Borders, and seminars on Fanon and Black Political Thought. She has taught at Humboldt-Universität, Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen, and the University of Antioquia, Medellín.

Awards & Recognition: The Werner Pünder-Prize 2019 for her dissertation on the Haitian Revolution’s role in rethinking freedom and domination.
