Jeanette Bennett is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychological Science at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where she conducts research on the biobehavioral and psychological mechanisms linking stress to health outcomes. She is actively involved in the Health Psychology PhD Program, the Honors Program, and leads the Biobehavioral Core (BBC) Lab, fostering interdisciplinary research collaboration.
Her research interests include:
- Psychoneuroimmunology
- Biobehavioral effects of stress
- Stress-related disease development
- Mind-body health interventions
- Sex differences in stress and health
- Effects of stress across the lifespan
Dr. Bennett's work explores how acute stress can be beneficial while chronic stress becomes toxic, with a focus on identifying individual differences and behavioral interventions that mitigate negative health impacts. She integrates experimental methods to understand how psychological experiences 'get under the skin' to affect physical and mental health.
She directs the Biobehavioral Core (BBC) Lab, which supports faculty and students across disciplines in grant writing, research design, data collection, and analysis. The lab serves as a hub for biobehavioral research at UNC Charlotte.
Dr. Bennett is actively engaged in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, particularly those in the Honors Program and Health Psychology PhD track. She encourages research assistant applications and supports student involvement in her lab and teaching activities.
