Jay Wason is an Associate Professor of Forest Ecosystem Physiology at the School of Forest Resources within the College of Natural Sciences, Forestry and Agriculture at the University of Maine. He divides his time equally between teaching and research, focusing on the physiological responses of northeastern forest trees to changing climate conditions.
His research interests center on understanding how trees adapt physiologically to future climate scenarios, particularly in terms of growth, photosynthesis, resource allocation, and survival. His work integrates both laboratory and field-based approaches to study forest ecosystem dynamics under environmental stress.
Dr. Wason leads the Wason Lab of Forest Ecosystem Physiology, which conducts ecophysiological research on forest trees. His work is supported by the Maine Agricultural and Forest Experiment Station through the McIntire-Stennis program (Project ME042121).
He joined the faculty in 2018 after serving as a postdoctoral associate at the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies. His educational background includes a Ph.D. from the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry and a B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Wason teaches courses in forest biology, the structure and function of woody plants, and tree physiology. He is actively engaged in mentoring and research supervision, though specific students are not listed.
