Jay Hornack is an Adjunct Professor of Law at Carnegie Mellon University's School of Industrial Administration and an Adjunct Professor of Disability Discrimination Law at the University of Pittsburgh's School of Law. He practices law as a partner in the firm Healey & Hornack, focusing on employee rights and benefits, including workers' compensation, Social Security disability, employment discrimination, and pension benefits.

His professional affiliations include the Allegheny County Bar Association, National Organization of Social Security Claimant Representatives, and roles on the Disability Rights Network of Pennsylvania’s Board of Directors as Legal Committee Chair. He also served as Special Counsel to Pittsburgh City Council (1983) and Solicitor for the Steel Valley Authority since 1986.
