Professor Jay Cullen is a faculty member at Edge Hill University’s School of Law & Criminal Justice, specializing in Financial Regulation, Banking Law, and Corporate Governance. Previously, he held positions at the University of York (as Professor of Financial Regulation and Director of Research), the University of Sheffield (Associate Professor), and Liverpool John Moores University (Senior Lecturer). He has also served as an Adjunct Research Professor at the University of Oslo, coordinating research on sustainable finance. His work focuses on sustainable finance, climate policy, and systemic risk, with grants from the ESRC, European Commission, and others.
Research Interests include sustainable finance mechanisms, central bank roles in climate change, and banking sector reforms. He has presented at institutions like the Bank of England and European Parliament, with work cited by the IMF, Financial Times, and others. He is affiliated with the Institute for New Economic Thinking (INET) and the Global Institute for Sustainable Prosperity (GISP).
His most recent articles (2023–2018) explore topics such as central bank digital currencies, climate finance, and systemic risk in ETFs. He has supervised numerous PhD students and contributes to editorial boards like the Law and Financial Markets Review. Grants include funding from the British Academy and Society of Legal Scholars.
