Jasper de Bie

Jasper de Bie is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law (Criminology Department) and Empirical and Normative Studies at VU University Amsterdam. He holds a PhD from Leiden University (2016) and has conducted research at John Jay College of Criminal Justice (NY, USA). His work focuses on the intersection of climate change and conflict, alongside jihadism and security.

Education:

• PhD in Jihadist Networks (Leiden University)

Research Interests: Explores terrorism, criminological analysis of extremist networks, and climate-induced conflict dynamics. Current projects examine climate change's impact on forced migration, food insecurity, and border conflicts.

Teaching: Leads the 'Terrorism and Security' course. Engages in interdisciplinary research bridging law, policy, and socio-environmental factors.

Projects: Co-leads a Climate Change and Conflict initiative (33% focus on forced migration, national borders, and food security).
