Jasper van der Kemp is an Assistant Professor at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam's Faculty of Law, within the Criminal Law & Criminology department. He is also affiliated with the Amsterdam Laboratory for Legal Psychology (ALLP) and Empirical and Normative Studies. His research focuses on geographical offender profiling, serial offenders, and crime linkage analysis, with notable contributions to cold case investigations and wrongful conviction studies through Project Gerede Twijfel. He holds a psychology background and has been with VU Amsterdam since 2006.
Education: Trained as a psychologist, conducted research at Netherlands Institute for the Study of Crime and Law Enforcement (NSCR) from 2001-2006. PhD research centered on offenders' geographical patterns and criminal careers.
Research Interests: Specializes in spatial criminology, offender behavior analysis, and investigative psychology. Key areas include journeys-to-crime, modus operandi analysis, and crime scene behavior interpretation. Active in crime linkage research through the Crime Linkage International Network (C-LINK).
Teaching: Coordinates courses in forensic criminology, crime analysis, and spatial criminology. Involves students in real-world projects like cold case analysis.
Awards: Recipient of the Wiley Poster Prize (2005) from the European Association of Psychology and Law.
Labs/Teams: Member of Amsterdam Laboratory for Legal Psychology (ALLP) and coordinates interdisciplinary cold case research initiatives.
