Jasper Kenter

Jasper Kenter is a Research Professorial Fellow in Deliberative Ecological Economics at Aberystwyth Business School. He holds affiliations as Honorary Fellow at the University of York’s Department of Environment and Geography and Director of Ecologos Research Ltd, a sustainability-focused social enterprise. His work bridges ecological economics, environmental policy, and participatory decision-making, emphasizing values of nature and stakeholder deliberation.

He previously served as Reader in Deliberative Ecological Economics at the University of York and led the Laurence Mee Centre for Society and the Sea at the Scottish Association for Marine Science. Kenter has contributed to high-profile initiatives like the UK National Ecosystem Assessment and IPBES, focusing on valuing ecosystems through shared and cultural values.

His research explores how social processes shape values, integrating economic and deliberative methods to inform policy. Key areas include relational values, new economics frameworks, and sustainable development goals. He has led projects funded by UK, European, and international councils, addressing marine conservation, coastal heritage governance, and climate resilience.

Notable awards include prizes from the European Society for Ecological Economics and Society for Conservation Biology for his Solomon Islands research on environmental values. He also serves as Editor of Sustainability Science and has authored over 70 peer-reviewed publications.
