Jason S. Entsminger, Ph.D., holds a dual role as Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship & Innovation at the Maine Business School and Assistant Extension Professor/State Specialist for Small Business at UMaine Cooperative Extension. His work bridges academia and applied outreach, focusing on innovation, new venture startups, and rural economic development, particularly in agriculture and food systems. He has a joint appointment spanning the University of Maine’s academic and extension arms.
Education includes a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Applied Economics from the University of Missouri (2020), an International Master of Science in Rural Development (summa cum laude) from universities in Italy, France, and Germany (2013), and multiple bachelor’s degrees in Agricultural Economics, International Affairs, and French from the University of Nevada, Reno (2010).
Research interests center on entrepreneurial networks, organizational evolution, and rural enterprise development, with a sectoral focus on food value chains. He teaches courses in entrepreneurship and small business management and develops applied programs for diverse entrepreneurs. His extension work aids Maine businesses and communities through training, outreach, and strategic partnerships.
