Jason Rech is a Professor and Chair at Miami University, affiliated with the Center for Aquatic and Watershed Sciences, Department of Geology and Environmental Earth Science, and the Institute for the Environment and Sustainability. His research focuses on surficial processes in streams, wetlands, and soils, geoarchaeology, and terrestrial records of climate change. He employs methods like geochronology, geochemistry, and stable isotope analysis, with fieldwork in deserts (e.g., Middle East, Atacama) and Ohio. Recent grants include studies on mussel conservation, climate impacts in the Arabian Peninsula, and hydrology in Ohio watersheds.
Research interests emphasize climate change impacts, water resources, and paleoenvironmental proxies such as land snail oxygen isotopes. His work bridges geological and archaeological contexts, integrating landscape evolution with human-environment interactions. Teaching includes courses on geomorphology, paleoclimatology, and stream geology.
Publications highlight contributions to understanding fluvial systems, reservoir effects in mollusks, and climate reconstructions. He advises graduate students exploring topics like Jordan’s water resources, Ohio’s wetland hydrology, and paleoclimate proxies.
