Jasmin Akter is a Research Fellow at Deakin University's School of Medicine, affiliated with the Institute for Mental and Physical Health and Clinical Translation (IMPACT) and the Centre for Innovation in Infectious Disease and Immunology Research (CIIDIR). Based in Geelong Victoria, she collaborates with Prof. Alyssa E. Barry's group and the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b) on malaria genomics.
Her research focuses on malaria epidemiology, antimalarial drug resistance, parasite biology, host response to disease, and gut microbiome. She has over 15 years of experience in infectious diseases research and has published highly cited work on malaria, enteric parasitic, and bacterial diseases.
Currently, she is leading a Wellcome Trust-funded project to establish genomic surveillance for antimalarial drug resistance in Bangladesh. This initiative aims to inform the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP) and the WorldWide Antimalarial Resistance Network (WWARN) with high-throughput molecular data.
