Dr Jasem Tarawneh is a Senior Lecturer in Commercial and Intellectual Property Law at Queen Mary University of London and Programme Director for Specialist Intellectual Property Law Programmes. He previously lectured at the University of Manchester and worked as a corporate lawyer and arbitrator in Europe and the Middle East. He holds expertise in intellectual property, international dispute resolution, and trade/investment law. His research focuses on law & economics, with notable grants including the ASPECT-funded study on AI ethics in arbitration and ESRC IAA projects on regional economic development through trade.
Research & Grants: Jasem secured over £60k in grants, including £13,534 for 'Levelling Up UK Regions' and £4,000 for an AI arbitration platform. He collaborates with EUIPO, WIPO, and UK parliamentary committees on trade policy.
Advising & External Roles: Supervised 12+ PhDs (e.g., multilateral investment courts, arbitration enforcement). Served as external examiner for 21 PhDs and 7 universities. Engages with global institutions like Oxford’s TaPP Network and UK Parliament’s APPG on Trade.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Northern Intellectual Property Law Research Symposium and contributes to Queen Mary’s Centre for Commercial Law Studies.
