Professor Noam Shemtov is a Professor of Intellectual Property and Technology Law and Deputy Head of the Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS) at Queen Mary University of London. He specializes in intellectual property law, technology law, and AI-related legal frameworks. His research focuses on software patents, open-source software, mobile applications, and the intersection of AI with IP rights. He has held visiting appointments at Spanish and Dutch universities and is a qualified solicitor in the UK and Israel.
Shemtov has led major research projects funded by organizations such as Microsoft, WIPO, and the European Space Agency. Notable works include studies on AI inventorship for the European Patent Office and the establishment of Ukraine’s specialized IP Court. He directs the Queen Mary Intellectual Property Research Institute (QMIPRI) and actively participates in global conferences on IP law, AI ethics, and digital innovation.
His recent publications address challenges in AI-driven innovation, GUI protection, and global IP court reforms. He frequently advises policymakers on emerging technologies and IP policy, with contributions to UK government reports on AI and music industry regulations.
