Maciej Padamczyk is a PhD Student at the Queen Mary Intellectual Property Research Institute (QMIPRI), Queen Mary University of London. His research focuses on the patentability of emerging biotechnologies, particularly genome editing, and the role of eligibility criteria and morality exceptions in their governance.
He is currently pursuing a PhD in Intellectual Property Law at Queen Mary University of London, supported by the prestigious Herchel Smith Scholarship.
His academic interests span Intellectual Property, Life Sciences, Healthcare, and Bioethics. He critically examines how legal frameworks govern emerging biotechnologies, with a focus on genome editing and the ethical implications of patent eligibility criteria. Recent work explores specialized IP judiciary structures and their role in effective IP court reform.
Maciej has received the Herchel Smith Scholarship.
Maciej has contributed to significant academic projects, including:
- Providing legal research for the Ukrainian IP Court project at Queen Mary
- Supporting the Polish government’s implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Disabled Persons
- Working as a Judicial Assistant at the Constitutional Court of Poland
