Jari Pakkanen

Professor Jari Pakkanen holds the position of Hellenic Institute Professor of Greek Archaeology at the Department of Classics, Royal Holloway, University of London. His research focuses on Greek archaeology, particularly architectural design and urban planning, integrating three-dimensional documentation, statistical analysis, and computer simulations. He leads projects such as the Salamis Urban Landscape Project and the Kyllene Harbour Project, emphasizing digital methods and quantitative approaches in archaeology. His work contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals related to cultural preservation and sustainable urban development.

Research Projects: Director of Salamis Urban Landscape Project (collaboration with the Ephorate of Antiquities and the Finnish Institute at Athens), Urban Landscape of Naxos in Sicily (re-evaluating classical city grids), and Kyllene Harbour Project (studying underwater structures).
