Jared Wesley serves as Professor in the Department of Political Science and Associate Dean (Graduate) in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Alberta. His career bridges academic scholarship and government practice, having held senior roles in both the Government of Manitoba and Alberta prior to joining academia.
His research focuses on political culture, provincial politics, and public policy, with particular emphasis on Western Canada. Key projects include the Common Ground initiative studying values in Western politics, Viewpoint Alberta tracking political attitudes, and the Party Switchers project analyzing floor-crossing in Canadian legislatures. He employs mixed-method approaches combining survey research, elite interviews, and policy analysis.
His recent publications (2021-2025) reveal strong thematic continuity in Canadian political studies, with growing attention to trust in public institutions, health policy during crises, and racial equity issues. The scholarship demonstrates methodological diversity across quantitative surveys, qualitative interviews, and policy document analysis.
- Principal Investigator for SSHRC-funded Comparative Provincial Elections Project (2011-2015)
- Co-Investigator on SSHRC Insight Grant Crossing the floor and crossing lines (2025)
