Jared Lau is an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology, Leadership, & Counseling at Texas Tech University’s College of Education. He holds a PhD in Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, an MA from the University of San Diego, and a BS from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. His scholarship focuses on Ecological and Multicultural Counseling, antiracism in education, and international student experiences. Lau’s work emphasizes practical applications in both domestic and global contexts.
Key research interests include counselor training environments, assessment methodologies, and social justice advocacy. He has published in top-tier journals such as Counselor Education and Supervision and Journal of Humanistic Counseling. Lau is a former President of the Western Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (WACES) and the 2023 recipient of the ACES Locke-Paisley Outstanding Mentor Award. He currently serves as Secretary for the ACA division Counselors for Social Justice (CSJ) and sits on the editorial board of the Journal of LGBTQ Issues in Counseling.
His professional credentials include National Certification as a Counselor and licensure in Nevada and North Carolina. Clinical experience spans university counseling centers, career services, and high school counseling. Lau’s research trends highlight interdisciplinary approaches to multicultural competency, trauma-informed practices, and systemic barriers in education.
