Amber Samuels serves as Assistant Professor of Counseling and Core Faculty for the Master's in Counseling (Clinical and School) program at Hood College, where she also coordinates the CMHC Specialty Practicum & Internship. A Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in DC, National Certified Counselor (NCC), Certified Career Counselor (CCC), and MBTI® Certified Practitioner, she holds a Ph.D. in Counseling from The George Washington University, an M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Radford University, and a B.A. in Psychology from Randolph-Macon College.
Her research and clinical practice center on mental health needs of historically marginalized communities through multicultural and social justice frameworks. As director of the Multicultural and Social Justice Counseling Research Lab, she engages students in qualitative advocacy projects examining equity issues in counseling. Her work emphasizes culturally responsive training for future counselors across community mental health, private practice, and educational settings.
Dr. Samuels actively contributes to professional organizations including the American Counseling Association (ACA), Association for Counselor Education & Supervision (ACES), National Career Development Association (NCDA), and Counselors for Social Justice (CSJ). Her leadership recognition includes:

She previously held roles as Assistant Director of Training and Staff Clinical Supervisor at The George Washington University's Community Counseling Services Center, bringing diverse clinical experience from post-secondary, intensive in-home, and community mental health settings to her current academic position.
