Jansen Johannes

Prof. Jansen Johannes is a Full Professor in Biomaterials, Experimental Implantology, and Experimental Periodontology at Radboud University, leading the Unit of Periodontology and Biomaterials since 2001. He currently heads the College of Dental Sciences at Radboud University Medical Centre. His academic career spans roles as a Visiting Professor at Rice University (2002) and Clemson University (1992), alongside professorships at Leiden and Amsterdam Universities.

Education: Graduated in Dentistry (1977, Radboud University), completed a PhD in Biomaterials (1984, Radboud University) as a volunteer. Maintained a part-time dental practice in Maassluis (1977–present).

Research focuses on biomaterials, regenerative medicine, and implantology, particularly bone-implant interactions and wound healing around implants. Notable achievements include pioneering work on electrosprayed coatings and growth factor delivery systems for implants.

Awards include the IADR Distinguished Scientist Award (2014), Royal Netherlands Academy membership (2008), and Simon Stevin Mastership (2003). Supervised 64 completed PhD students and currently guides 20 researchers. Active in editorial roles for seven journals and holds seven patents.

Labs/Teams: Heads the Laboratory of Biomaterials and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams in biomaterials science. Research extends to clinical applications in dentistry and regenerative medicine.
