Dr. Janos G. Hajagos serves as Research Assistant Professor and Chief of Data Analytics in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Stony Brook University, with affiliations spanning both the School of Medicine and College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Based at HSC L3-045 in Stony Brook, NY, he leads data science initiatives across Stony Brook Medicine and the Suffolk Care Collaborative's DSRIP award.
Dr. Hajagos's research spans two primary domains: (1) applying machine learning approaches to quantify healthcare utilization patterns using graph databases and algorithms on EMR and administrative data, and (2) developing semantic technologies to bridge disparate information sources through UMLS adaptation to connect basic science researchers with clinicians. His work demonstrates strong translational potential, moving from theoretical informatics to practical healthcare applications.
His publication record shows significant evolution from ecological research (his PhD field) to biomedical informatics, with recent work focusing on opioid overdose prediction, kidney disease progression, aortic aneurysm metrics, and pandemic response data. The trend indicates increasing specialization in healthcare AI applications with strong methodological rigor and clinical relevance.
As Chief of Data Analytics, Dr. Hajagos directs quality initiatives at Stony Brook Medicine while maintaining active research collaborations across multiple domains including addiction medicine, nephrology, and pandemic response. His leadership in the National COVID Cohort Collaborative demonstrates his impact on national research infrastructure.
