Dr. Fusheng Wang is a Professor in both the Department of Biomedical Informatics and Department of Computer Science at Stony Brook University. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from UCLA and M.S./B.S. in Engineering Physics from Tsinghua University. His research focuses on integrating data management and biomedical informatics, particularly in spatial big data analytics, medical imaging, and AI-driven healthcare solutions. He leads projects such as the NSF CAREER Award on spatial big data and the PCORI-funded initiative for predictive patient outcomes. Dr. Wang has received prestigious awards, including the VLDB Test of Time Award (2024) for pioneering work in Hadoop GIS.
Research Interests: Scalable data management systems, GIS applications in healthcare, opioid epidemic analysis, medical imaging informatics, and AI-driven assistive technologies. His lab, Data Management and Biomedical Data Analytics, develops tools like Hadoop-GIS and SparkGIS for large-scale spatial data processing. Recent work includes AI-based early prediction of patient risks and 3D vessel reconstruction from histopathology images.
Awards: NSF CAREER (2014), EDBT Test of Time (2016), VLDB Test of Time (2024). Active grants include the NSF CAREER project and a PCORI award (2024). He advises multiple Ph.D. students and collaborates on projects like liver steatosis quantification and opioid poisoning analysis. His lab's software frameworks are widely used in medical imaging and public health.
