Dr. Janine Bestall is a Senior Research Fellow in Applied Health Research at the University of Leeds, affiliated with the Division of Health Services Research under the School of Medicine. With over two decades of experience, she specializes in qualitative research methods and patient/public involvement in healthcare, focusing on integrated care models and self-care strategies for chronic conditions.
Education:
- PhD in Respiratory Medicine from St Bartholomew's and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry and St George's Hospital Medical School
- BSc (Hons) in Psychology
Research Focus: Her work addresses patient-centered healthcare challenges, including prehabilitation for lung cancer patients and patient experiences of immunotherapy. She contributes to research design frameworks and co-production methodologies in health services.
Responsibilities:
- Deputy Director of the Research Design Service Yorkshire and Humber (RDS YH)
- Advisor for RDS YH, supporting funding proposals to NIHR and medical research charities
- Leadership in the Public Health Research Application and Design Advice (PHRADA) service
- Personal tutor for Masters students at Leeds Institute of Health Sciences
Collaborations: She coordinates cross-institutional teams with methodologists in Leeds, York, and Sheffield, and serves as a reviewer for BMJ Open and NIHR funding panels.
