Janina Boughey

Associate Professor Janina Boughey is a leading scholar in public and administrative law at UNSW Sydney, where she holds the position of Associate Professor in the Faculty of Law. She is an ARC DECRA Fellow and directs the Administrative Law and Justice Project and the Public Law and Technology Project at the Gilbert + Tobin Centre of Public Law. Her research focuses on modern governance challenges, including administrative law's role in overseeing automated decision-making systems, government accountability, and comparative legal frameworks across Australia, Canada, and the UK. Boughey has authored or co-authored numerous books and articles, including The Automated State: Implications, Challenges and Opportunities for Public Law (2021) and Government Liability: Principles and Remedies (2019). She holds a PhD from Monash University, alongside law and economics degrees from the University of Sydney and an LLM from ANU. Her work bridges legal theory and practice, addressing contemporary issues like algorithmic transparency and emergency powers accountability.
