Janice E. Hudson is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography at Miami University. Her research focuses on interdisciplinary approaches to address sustainability challenges, including bark bacteria dynamics, forest watershed interactions, and biogeochemical processes. She teaches courses such as Global Forces, Local Diversity and Mapping a Changing World. Her work integrates environmental science, ecology, and hydrology to advance sustainable practices.
Education: Ph.D. and M.A. in Geography from the University of Delaware; B.A. from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs.
Research interests span microbial ecology, canopy dynamics, and climate adaptation. Recent studies include mapping bark bacteria's role in forest ecosystems and analyzing radiocesium transport post-Fukushima. Collaborations involve institutions like the University of Koblenz-Landau and University of Barcelona, focusing on Fagus sp. biogeochemical niches.
Her publications explore ecohydrology, water cycle homogenization, and agricultural sustainability in the High Plains. Current projects emphasize finalizing research on throughfall base cation chemistry in the mid-Atlantic and advancing ecohydrological methodologies.
