Janet Ballweg is a Professor and Area Head of Printmaking in the School of Art at Bowling Green State University (BGSU), part of the College of Arts and Sciences. She earned an MFA in Printmaking from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana (1985) and a BS in Art from the University of Wisconsin at Madison (1983), with concentrations in Printmaking and Drawing.
Her research focuses on integrating digital technologies with contemporary printmaking techniques, such as photopolymer intaglio and screenprint. Ballweg has received prestigious awards, including the BGSU Professor of Creative Arts Excellence (2018–2021) and an Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Award. She has participated in notable residencies, including a 2-month stay at the Guanlan Printmaking Base in China and a 2-week residency at Brush Creek Ranch in Wyoming.
Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Paradox Exhibition in Turkey, the 11th Biennale Internationale de l'art Graphique in Canada, and the Guanlan International Print Biennial in China. Her art is part of prominent collections such as the Douro Art Museum (Portugal), the China Printmaking Museum (Shenzhen), and the Zuckerman Museum of Art (Georgia). Ballweg is actively involved in professional organizations like the Southern Graphics Council International and has held leadership roles in the Mid-America Print Council and Foundations in Art: Theory and Education.
