Dr. Janet Englund is a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Washington and affiliate investigator at Fred Hutch Cancer Center, specializing in pediatric infectious diseases and virology. She directs research on respiratory viral vaccines in diverse populations including immunocompromised hosts and pregnant persons, and leads the CDC-sponsored New Vaccine Surveillance Network site in Seattle.
Her research focuses on vaccine-preventable respiratory diseases, viral diagnostics, and novel therapeutics, with extensive clinical trial experience across NIH-sponsored networks including AIDS Clinical Trials Unit and Vaccine Treatment Evaluation Unit. She holds an MD from University of Michigan and completed residency at Fairview-University Medical Center with virology and infectious disease fellowships at University of Minnesota.
Recent publications emphasize virology, epidemiology, and vaccine effectiveness for SARS-CoV-2, influenza, and RSV, with significant contributions to national immunization policies. Collaborative projects include work with Seattle Flu Study and Public Health WA on community transmission dynamics and innovative surveillance methodologies.
