Jane Hand is a Research Fellow at the University of Warwick's Centre for the History of Medicine, supported by a Wellcome Trust Senior Investigator Award. Her research focuses on public health, health education, and the visual components of health campaigns in postwar Britain. She explores the intersection of health policy, consumerism, and the NHS's role in shaping public health behaviors. Jane holds a PhD in History from the University of Warwick, funded by a Wellcome Trust Doctoral Studentship, and an MA in Social and Cultural History of Medicine from University College Dublin.
Her research interests include the visual culture of health promotion, chronic disease prevention, and the influence of the food industry on health messaging. She is currently writing a monograph on the interplay between health policy, NHS guidance, and health consumerism since the 1970s.
Jane has presented extensively on topics such as dental health education, obesity, and the cultural history of the NHS at institutions including the Max Planck Institute and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Her work has been recognized through Wellcome Trust fellowships and awards.
