معرفی
Jan Tack is a full professor at KU Leuven's Faculty of Medicine, Department of Chronic Diseases and Metabolism, where he leads the Translational Research in GastroIntestinal Disorders unit. He serves on the Council of the Faculty of Medicine, POC Deglutology, and the Departmental Council, demonstrating active institutional engagement.
His research centers on functional gastrointestinal disorders, with primary focus on functional dyspepsia and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Key interests include food-induced duodenal immune activation, dietary interventions like FODMAP restriction, gut-brain axis mechanisms, and novel therapeutic targets for upper gastrointestinal disorders. His work bridges clinical observation with molecular mechanisms to understand nutrient-induced symptoms.
Recent publications (2025) reveal strong emphasis on clinical translation: FODMAP diet outcomes in functional dyspepsia, duodenal immune activation as therapeutic target, and global epidemiology of disorders like cyclic vomiting syndrome. His work integrates randomized trials, mechanistic studies, and large-scale epidemiological data across upper and lower GI disorders.
Advising and Grants: Prof. Tack supervises PhD students including G.W L C M. Broeders and L.M. Balsiger. His active research portfolio includes:
- Mechanisms underlying food-induced duodenal immune activation (2025-2029, Promotor)
- Optimising diagnosis/treatment of functional dyspepsia (2024-2028, Promotor)
- Dietary interventions for gut-brain disorders (2023-2027, Promotor)
He directs the Translational Research in GastroIntestinal Disorders unit and collaborates with international consortia including the AEGIS Working Group and Rome Foundation Global Epidemiology Study, driving multidisciplinary approaches to complex GI disorders.
