Jan Sandstad Næss

Jan Sandstad Næss is an Associate Professor at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology’s Department of Architecture and Technology. His research advances climate change mitigation strategies through land-energy-water nexus studies, focusing on sustainable bioenergy systems, zero-emission neighborhoods, and circular economy applications. He leads projects assessing the potential of abandoned cropland for carbon dioxide removal via afforestation and BECCS, employing interdisciplinary methods that integrate quantitative modeling with qualitative social science.

Recent publications analyze renewable energy deployment, urban material flows, and life-cycle emissions in built environments.
