Jan Riggsbee is Professor of the Practice of Education at Duke University, where she directs the Duke TeachHouse initiative. Her teaching and research focus on transformative teacher preparation, integrating service learning and technology into K-12 education.
Riggsbee's current research examines teacher attrition factors during COVID-19, reading pedagogy, and innovative approaches to teacher residency programs. As Principal Investigator for the Duke TeachHouse project, she develops housing-based learning communities for early-career teachers that combine mentoring, professional development, and collaborative practice.
Recognized for teaching excellence, Riggsbee received Duke's Robert B. Cox Award and Paletz Innovative Teaching Award. She serves on multiple advisory boards including the Hill Center for Learning Differences and contributes to North Carolina's educational policy development.
