Jan Olsson is a Professor of Political Science at Örebro University, affiliated with the School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences and the Department of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences. He holds an ORCID ID: 0000-0002-3602-1837. Olsson earned his PhD in Political Science from Gothenburg University in 1995. His research focuses on policy implementation, institutional change, sustainable development, and public ethics, with an emphasis on governance, multi-level politics, and bottom-up policy processes. He has led numerous research projects, including studies on green public ethics and sustainable development from below. Olsson’s work bridges empirical and theoretical studies, addressing modern policy challenges such as municipal service centers and environmental governance.
His research interests include public administration, policy networks, sustainability ethics, and institutional theory. Key areas of focus are the role of civil servants in policy change, the greening of public institutions, and transformative learning for sustainable development. Olsson is associated with the Center for Social Science Environmental and Sustainability Research (CESSS) and has contributed to international journals such as Environmental Politics and Planning Theory & Practice.
Olsson’s publications span books, edited volumes, and over 100 articles. Recent works include Green Public Ethics: Adopting Ethical Reasoning in Policy Processes (2024) and a 2023 article on public pension fund ethics. His research often examines Scandinavian case studies, blending comparative and local analyses. Olsson currently teaches at the master’s and PhD levels, aligning with his expertise in policy and sustainable development.
