Erik Hysing is a Professor of Political Science at Örebro University and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, affiliated with the School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences. His research focuses on governance, policy design, and sustainable development, particularly in environmental policy, chemical governance, and urban planning. He holds a PhD from Örebro University (2010) and has held academic positions since 2014.
Key research interests include policy change mechanisms, collaborative governance between public and private actors, and the role of public officials in driving sustainability initiatives. Current projects address urban planners' trust in citizens, PFAS chemical governance, road safety integration into sustainable mobility, and water challenges in urban development.
Erik supervises four PhD candidates and is part of the Center for Environmental and Sustainability Social Science (CESSS). His teaching spans political science, public administration, and urban planning. Over 60 peer-reviewed articles and books reflect his contributions to environmental policy analysis, including works on biodiversity governance, ecosystem services, and transformative learning for sustainability.
Notable collaborations include projects with the Swedish Road and Transport Research Institute (VTI) and multidisciplinary initiatives on chemical recycling and climate adaptation. His work emphasizes understanding resistance to policy changes and fostering societal acceptance for sustainability transitions.
