Jan Law is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Sociological and Psychological Sciences at the University of Abertay, where she has served since 2006. Previously, she taught at institutions including the University of Stirling, Glasgow Caledonian University, and the Open University. Her research focuses on education and health, particularly among young people, addressing topics like sexual health, smoking, homelessness, and sexual consent. She holds a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and has collaborated on interdisciplinary projects with computer game developers to create educational tools for schools.
Key research areas include policy-oriented evaluations for Scottish Government and NHS Tayside, with notable grants such as the £40,083 'Keep Well' study (2008–2011) and the £4,479 'Respect and Responsibility' review (2007–2008). Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing education and health equity. She currently serves as Vice Chair on the board of WRASAC.
