Professor Jan Hardman (nee Abd-Kadir) serves as Professor of Language Education in the Department of Education, Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of York, where she has held academic positions since 2009 after lecturing at La Trobe University, Newcastle University, and University of Birmingham.
Her educational qualifications include:
- PhD in Applied Linguistics from University of Birmingham
- MSc in TESOL from California State University
- Executive MBA from University of Newcastle
Hardman's research investigates classroom discourse structures and dialogic pedagogy to enhance learning outcomes across educational phases, with particular focus on socio-economically disadvantaged contexts and cross-disciplinary applications in Humanities, Sciences, and Social Sciences. Her work bridges theoretical discourse analysis with practical teacher development.
Recent publications demonstrate evolving emphasis on internationalized higher education contexts and evidence-based interventions for improving classroom dialogue, with increasing attention to equity-focused applications in primary education settings.
