Jan Bietenbeck is an Associate Professor of Economics at Lund University's Department of Economics. He is also affiliated with CESifo, DIW Berlin, and IZA. Prior to his current position, he served as an Assistant Professor of Economics at Lund University and completed his Ph.D. in Economics at CEMFI in Madrid in 2014.
His research primarily focuses on the Economics of Education and the determinants of human capital, particularly examining education and health in both developed and developing countries. His work spans various specific questions including teaching practices, childhood peer effects, working hours and health, preschool effectiveness, and the impact of teachers' knowledge on student learning. More recently, he has expanded his research to include economic and social preferences and the consequences of economic inequality.
